We’re thrilled to announce that the Flamingo Fund has awarded a grant to The Hangout Youth CIC, a grassroots organisation doing vital work with LGBTQ+ young people in Leeds.
The funding will go directly towards supporting a joyful and inclusive Pride programme for working-class and neurodiverse LGBTQ+ youth aged 13–19. This grant will enable around 20 young people to take part in Pride events and creative activities across Yorkshire, reducing barriers to participation and promoting a powerful sense of belonging.
What’s Happening?
Thanks to this grant, The Hangout Youth CIC will deliver a series of affirming and celebratory experiences, including:
🦩 Youth Pride Leeds (Summer 2025): A safe, expressive space for LGBTQ+ youth to come together, connect with services, and celebrate their identities in the heart of their city.
🦩 Trip to SAYiT! Youth Pride in Sheffield: Strengthening regional connections between LGBTQ+ youth communities in Leeds and Sheffield, this visit promotes solidarity, sharing, and support.
🦩 Creative Visit to Mandy Apple Art Gallery (Scarborough): A Pride-themed exhibition co-curated by young people, exploring themes of identity, protest, and pride through art.
What the Grant Covers:
- 🚍 Travel for group trips
- 🎨 Materials for banners, badges, and artwork
- 🍓 Snacks for the Youth Pride Leeds day
- 🧸 Access support (sensory aids, travel buddies, quiet spaces)
Why It Matters
Too often, LGBTQ+ youth—especially those who are working-class or neurodiverse—are excluded from mainstream Pride celebrations. This programme ensures that Pride is accessible, empowering, and genuinely reflective of all identities. It’s about visibility, connection, and joy.
At Flamingos Coffee House, we believe in putting community at the heart of everything we do. The Flamingo Fund is our way of giving back—every coffee you buy helps support initiatives like this.
Stay tuned for updates from the Pride events later this summer. And to all the young people involved: we’re proud of you. You belong here. 🏳️🌈
